Lawrence Kohlberg performed studies across different age groups to determine what their moral levels were. He created a stage theory in which people progress through the stages one at a time. These stages are preconventional morality, conventional morality, and postconventional morality. “Kohlberg claimed these levels form a moral ladder” (Myers, 2013, p. 194).
